According to list of national best selling companies in 2007 and 2008 prepared by Iran industrial management institute, Isfahan refinery is ranked first in the list. Isfahan oil refinery is providing about 24 percent of oil derivatives demand of Iran. Primary capacity of the refinery plant was 200 thousand barrels per day and has been gradually increased in post Iran-Iraq war, so that it reached 400 thousand barrels per day in some periods. Currently Isfahan refinery plant provides 20 percent of Gasoline demand in Iran. Development and optimization program of Isfahan refinery has been started since 2007 by an investment of 2.7 billion Euros and is expected to be finished by the end of 2011. This project is one of the biggest among ongoing projects in Iran. The main goals of the project are as below:

-Decreasing production of heavy oil products (fuel oil) and increasing production of light and more valuable products (specifically Gasoline) through installation of required new process units.

-Improving of quality of main products (Gasoline, Gas oil and Heavy oil) according to European standard of oil products through installing required process units.

-Stabilizing of refinery optimized capacity in 360 thousand barrels per day and increasing operational flexibility with installation a new distillation unit

-Modifying and eliminating operational bottlenecks in the existing units and installations

-Replacing the present pneumatic control system by DCS high-tech systems

-Decreasing or eliminating environmental pollutants
