Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), the majority state-owned operator of Oman’s national power grid, has tapped leading engineering design services firm Monenco to provide consultancy services linked to the establishment of a number of grid stations and associated overhead transmission lines in Dhofar Governorate.
Monenco Oman, with experience spanning the Power, Oil & Gas, Renewables, Infrastructure, Mining and Rail sectors, was among a number of firms that received contract awards totaling RO 332 million in value last week. Those contracts covered Phase 2 of OETC’s North-South Interconnection Project (Rabt), the construction of a number of grid stations, installations of hundreds of kilometers of overhead lines, and network upgrades in Dhofar.
“Monenco Oman is honoured to be part of this great development in the Sultanate of Oman as OETC Consultant for the construction of three grid stations (GS) - Mudhi GS, Shahab Aseeb GS, Mazyunah GS as well as the extension of the Thamrait GS along with associated 280km of overhead transmission lines in Dhofar (Governorate),” it announced in a post.
The three grid stations planned at Mudhi, Shahab Aseeb and Mazyunah are rated at 132kV/33kV each equipped with an array of switchgear bays, transformers and assorted protection and control equipment. The existing Thamrait GS will be expanded to include several GIS bays and other hardware. All four grid stations will be interlinked via a network of overhead transmission lines of a total distance of 280km.
Underscoring its presence in the Omani power services space, Monenco was also contracted to design the tie-in of a first-of-its-kind polysilicon manufacturing project, the ground-breaking on which was celebrated in Suhar recently, with a 400kV substation.
The client was United Solar Holding Co, which is investing RO 520 million in a 100,000 tonnes per annum capacity polysilicon plant at Sohar Freezone. The ground-breaking was witnessed by top officials of the Omani government.
“We are pleased to announce that consultancy services of the power supply tie-in plan design of a 400kV substation for the 100 kiloton per annum polysilicon project in Sohar Freezone has been awarded to Monenco Consulting Engineers by United Solar Polysilicon (FZC) SPC Co. The projects includes System Study, Engineering Services, Tendering, Bids evaluation and supervision of project successful implementation,” Monenco added in a separate post.
