Comissioning of Ghala Project in Oman

The latest part of Ghala Project which was 132kV UG Cables from Ghala Heights Grid Station to Bousher Grid Station Circuit 1 & 2 was completed, Energized and Operated successfully in October 2019. The project was located in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman and Oman Electricity Transmission Company was the client.

In this project, Monenco was responsible for basic design, conceptual design, project management and supervision services as the client consultant.

The main parts of the project were described as below:

• construction of new 132/33 kV Ghala Height Grid Station, adding two 132 kV GIS Bays at Bousher -1 Grid Station, connecting the Ghala Height G.S and Bousher-1 G.S and Connecting Ghala Height G.S to the existing Ghala Grid Station via 14 KM 132kV, 2500 mm^2 UG Cable, two Circuits (LI-LO)
• Adding 3^rd and 4^th Transformers to 132/33 kV Al Amerat G.S
• Adding 3^rd and 4^th Transformers to 132/33 Kv Existing Ghala Grid Station

The project was one of the most challenging project for OETC due to the location of 4 Nos of Grid Stations in Muscat area and 14 Km UG Cable 2500 mm^2 crossing through the middle of the city. There were many obstacles to overcome in this project such as highways, water and gas pipelines and many different utilities.
