• Technical & economical evaluation
Details:
Phase Shifting Transformer (PST), as a modern controller of power, is extensively utilized in transmission grids worldwide. PST balances power flow through different paths of a transmission corridor in order to deploy the existing transmission infrastructure. Iran grid management company (IGMC) as the operator of national grid has decided to include modern technologies into its grid. In this regard, feasibility studies for allocation of the first PST in Iran grid was defined by IGMC. Different scenarios for the existing as well as future grid operation were reconstructed and after various system studies, PST was localized to Azarbayjan 230 kV network in Northeast of Iran. System studies with this PST in service prove the following advantages:
1) Transmission Loss reduction up to 2.5 MW
2) Mitigating Loop Power Flows specially during North-South Power Flow
3) System Security Enhancement in Normal and Emergency conditions
4) Facilitate Reclosing of the series transmission line by reducing the voltage phase angle difference
5) Replacement for Investing on new transmission line
