Title: Feasibility studies of 500MW wind farms in Iran
Start Date: 2010
End Date: 2012
Client: MAPNA Company
Main Client: MAPNA Company
Location: 12 sites in Iran
Scope Of Work:
- Initial site selection based on available wind data
- Evaluation and micro-siting of chosen sites to determine number and location of meteorological masts
- Wind resource assessment for 1 year to collect wind data of sites
- Wind farm design and capacity factor analysis by using WindPRO software
- Evaluation of available infrastructure in wind farm including electrical grids and access roads to prepare feasibility study
Details:
Iran intends to develop the wind power capacity in the country. To provide a precise and comprehensive plan, power sector needs to determine the wind potential. In this regard, Iran wind atlas project has been started since 2005. According to obtained data from the first step of wind atlas, wind energy potential of Iran is estimated to be more than 30,000MW. So, participation and investment of non-governmental and private sectors in implementation of new wind farms, transferring technology of modern wind turbines, localization of wind power industry and other researches and development programs such as design and production of multi megawatt turbines are under study as a strategic guideline. At present, total capacity of installed wind farms in Iran is 74MW which is much lower than estimated amount of 1690MW in 2025.
According to 20-year vision, Iran should install 90MW wind farm every year. In this regard, feasibility study project of 500MW wind farm is defined to plan the 30 percent of the wind power capacity by that year.
